Technology and System Integration
Laser beam cladding is a technology, were metallic or composite layers
are welded to a surface utilizing a laser beam as the heat source.
The Fraunhofer IWS developed a system technology for the integration
of laser cladding and DMD into production lines. The CAD/CAM-line consists
of a 3D-digitalizer, an NC-programming system, a modular system of powder
nozzles, and appliances for coupling to various lasers and laser systems.
Furthermore, laser beam and plasma powder cladding as well as hybrid
technologies in combination of laser, plasma, and induction sources are
available at CCL.

Applications
The laser precision build-up welding has been proved to be a very successful
highly precise technique for industrial applications. It can be applied
to the surface protection, to repair tasks as well as to the direct generation
of complexly shaped 3-dimensional structures.
