Laser Hybrid Welding

Aluminum module carrier for passenger cars, laser hybrid welded

Technology

By combining laser welding with other processes, it is possible to get the advantages of both in a single process. We are leaders in the development of hybrid welding technologies.

Laser welding can be combined with MIG, TIG or plasma welding to create a process with the high speed and deep penetration of laser welding coupled with the superior gap-bridgeability and tolerance to misalignment of the conventional processes.

The different hybrid processes widen the weldable range of materials. The controlled heat input and the application oriented weld bead design allows critical materials to be welded without cracking but with enhanced process stability.

Applications

Laser hybrid welding processes are used for applications in the automotive industry and equipment manufacturing for aluminum and steel materials. Those applications require small effort for the seam preparation and at the same time high welding speeds and good seam quality.

  • Steelwork (crane booms, factory chimneys, etc.)
  • Car body building (Al and steel tailored blanks)
  • Equipment building (welded steel sections)
